Happy Birthday Thor

Heidi Hi!

Thor is one year old tomorrow, I can’t believe how quickly it has gone!

This may seem like a bit of a strange post but I’m not writing it because I’m one of those super creepy people who thinks their pet is actually their baby (Yes, we love him loads but we at least can tell the difference…), I’m writing this because I’m amazed at how much he’s changed our lives in just one small year. There are a few reasons for this:

Left: 5 weeks old. We only went to see the litter, decided he was the one. Right: 7 weeks old. The very first photo when we brought him home.

1. Unconditional Love

To Thor, we are his everything. To us: he snores too loudly, he’s too cuddly, he’s too heavy for cuddles the way he likes them, he’s too licky, his trumpy-bum can clear a room, he thinks playtime is 6am .. and that’s fine by us.

Left: 11 weeks. Right: 15 weeks

2. Responsibility

Now, this is what makes us feel a bit like parents. We have to consider his feed times, when he needs water, when he’s too cold/too hot, when he needs a bath, if he might need the toilet etc.

My favourite photo

3. My Brother

It’s a well-proven fact that pets help people with mental health problems, there are even special dogs that are trained to be psychiatric service animals! My brother suffers from Tourette’s Syndrome, Depression and OCD. Thor puts a huge smile on his face and he loves looking after him.. Although I’m not sure whether that’s because we have Sky TV and a full fridge/cupboards 😉

My boys

To somebody else he may be just another dog but I’m truly grateful that we are able to have him in our lives, even if he is a little terror. Happy Birthday (not-so-)little piglet!

Today: 364 days old

Btw, I want to talk about my brother in a bit more detail at some point (with his help) and I also want to cover the topic of ‘dangerous dogs’, so stay tuned!!

Tie-dye Unicorn

Heidi Hi!

Did you see my Payday Picks? This tee was one of the first things I bought when I got paid last month. I knew I wanted to turn it into a muscle tee and tie dye it too. Thought I'd take you along for the ride…

Step One: Fold in half. Make sure to line up the shoulder seams. This is so you get equal arm holes.

Step Two: Draw/cut out your arm holes (start small, you can always take more off – once it's done, it's done)… And if you're left handed, ask your Mum to help because we all know it's impossible to use scissors unless you stole the green/yellow ones from school…or use the left handed Early Learning Centre ones you've had since forever…

Step Three: Once you've cut your arm holes, you'll need to hook your fingers at each end and PULL, this will roll the edges for a cleaner finish.

Step Four: Use elastic bands to tie up your tee. Just go for it or google ways to make different patterns, i.e spiral etc.

Step Five: You'll need to add about a centimetre of your dye and a table spoon amount of salt (you can buy dye salt but the stuff you've already got in the cupboard will do) into a bottle (squirty top). Fill the bottle with warm-ish water, take cue from Outkast and “shake it like a Polaroid picture”

Step Six: Start squirting! I was going to do this outside but on seeing the lovely English weather, I went to Tesco and bought a cheap washing-up bowl. Don't forget to do both sides and try not to get it on the walls, ceiling, dog…

Step Seven: Leave it and wait for the magic to happen. Between 4 and 24 hours – obviously the longer you leave it, the darker the colour will be. Take this opportunity to enjoy a good snack ALL BY YOURSELF. Yes, thank you Thor.

Step Eight: Run under the cold tap until the water runs clear.

Step Nine: Remove elastic bands and stick your tee in the washing machine, there are instructions on the back of the Dylon packet. Also a good time to wash your dark towels…

Step Ten: Rock it, you beautiful Unicorn..

(Step Eleven: Realise that it would have been a good idea to wear gloves)

Have you tried tie-dye? How did it work out? You can tag me in your photos on Twitter and Instagram!
