Monthly Archives: July 2014

Heid Hi-Fives | July 2014

Heidi Hi!

I hope you’re ready for this! It seems that I’ve enjoyed a lot of things this month so grab an ice tea and get comfy..

FASHION

Hello, my name is Heidi and I’m addicted to sunglasses. These are the two new additions to my collection. Top: Prada – I bought these in the sale for an absolute bargain price of £30, down from £270! Bottom: Anthropologie – bought before the sale but they seem to have sold out, however, I also think these are cute.

Left: Playsuit Right: Dress

I really like Motel clothing but I do not like their prices, slightly contradictory? The material is very thin (lovely in the sun/on holiday) so I think that full price at £35 is a little steep, I’ll pounce on the sale though and that’s just what I did. Top tip – if you’re tall, size up as Motel dresses are VERY short.

FOOD

We’ve really been enjoying cooking vegetarian food recently. I picked up this little book in a garden centre and the dish on bottom right is from that book (stir-fried rice with green vegetables) but the dish on bottom left can be found here (lentil and sweet potato curry)

I don’t know if these are new but I’ve had to resist temptation to buy out the shop’s entire stock.

BEAUTY

I nearly bought the perfume from this range but as I already have a few perfumes I went for the hand and nail cream instead, leaves my hands feeling super soft and the smell is just beautiful.

The other beauty favourite is MAC Morange, I’m wearing it in the top sunglasses photo. I like red lipstick but it can look a bit Christmassy so the little add of orange helps to make it more summery.

MUSIC

Infectious reggae sound! Looking forward to hearing more from this band, watch the video here

YOUTUBER/BLOGGER

If you’re looking for a new book and need some recommendations then look no further than Sanne. Be careful though, with Sanne’s awesome Dutch accent you’ll want to buy every book she mentions!

Left: Egyptian Sandalwood Right: White Tea & Linen

Yes, more candles. Both of these smell really beachy and relaxing, perfect for summer evenings.

Phew. That’s a lot!

What have you been loving?

Helpful Hints: Bikinis

Heidi Hi!

It seems that last week’s post went down quite well so I thought I’d provide some more helpful hints, this time: BIKINIS

1. Not every bikini will suit every body shape. This may seem a bit obvious but it’s easy to forget when you….oh, that’s cute! See? Bandeaus are good for small chested and athletic girls, halterneck tops will flatter square shoulders, boy shorts balance out top heavy girls…. As with my advice for picking jeans, do your research and try lots on!

2. Details!

a) If you want to enhance then a bikini with frills will help you out. On the other hand, if you’re feeling a bit self conscious of your hips (for example – HELLO, me) then frills are a good one to avoid

b) Using the same rule as normal day-to-day clothes, horizontal stripes will make you look wider but I think this is more important when it comes to bikinis because it’s right up against your body. Again, consider what you want to show off/flatter

c) Smaller prints if you want to look smaller! If you’re larger and pick a big print it will make you look bigger but if you’re smaller and want to enhance then be careful because a large print might look like it’s swamping you

d) Ruching at the back of the bikini bottoms will give a little extra lift and shape

e) If you want to conceal a bit of a muffin top then tab side bikini bottoms are really flattering. Look for ones that don’t have stitching at the top and bottom of the tab, these won’t cut into your skin

3. Support is important. If you’re a member of the Itty Bitty Titty Committee then you just go ahead and wear whatever you want! However, if you were given extra when it came to your turn in the boob queue then please think about supporting your ladies, in years to come they will reward you by not dropping all the way to your knees. Triangle/string bikinis won’t be your friends and might let you down in more ways than one

4. Modesty Along with buying the correct size to hold everything in, please chose styles/designs wisely. This is the beach, not a strip club. Go topless if you want but bottom half should definitely be more covered than pretty-much-might-as-well-be-naked

5. Mix and match Wearing a bikini can be a scary thing and what happens if you spot somebody wearing EXACTLY the same bikini as you? You spend the rest of the day comparing yourself (Even though you shouldn’t because you look great anyway but you do, because you’re a girl. Unless you’re a guy wearing a bikini… in which case, that’s fine too?) To avoid the brain drama I never wear matching top and bottoms.. plus I don’t really like things that match and it’s fun to switch them up

6. Tan enhancing colours Think white, lemon yellow, lime green etc.. Fun and will look amazing in your snazzy holiday snaps

7. Grooming I’ll leave it at that

8. SUNBURN If you tend to burn then 1, use sunscreen and 2, do not wear pink, red or dark orange bikinis because it will make your sunburn look far worse and even less attractive

These tips also apply to one piece swimsuits and tankinis!

I’d also like to take this opportunity to remind some girls that wearing THAT much make up to the pool/beach is not going to be good for your skin. Buy a good tinted moisturiser with SPF, swipe some waterproof mascara, SPF lip balm and be done with it.

Do you think I’ve missed anything?
